We have a floor!

Tony and Anthony worked long and hard over two weekends - it would have taken them one if they'd had all the materials they needed, but we had a little oopsie - and downstairs, where we used to have really hideous alternating squares of 9"x9" asbestos tile, we now have gorgeous maple floors.

Let's review.  Here's what it looked like before:

Now, it looks like this:

Forgive the weird assemblage of furniture, baby stuff, extra floor pieces and shop vac.  We're working on it.

Pretty neat, huh?  It's now a warm and cheerful space that we like to be in.  We watched a movie down there last night when I was too tired to move (hence the ottoman in front of the bench; the little table next to it was for our dinner).

And the wood itself is gorgeous:

And check out what a beautiful job these guys did in the corners:

It's stunning.  We're so, so lucky.

We like it so much that we want to be down here now, so we're going to have to figure out how to furnish this space.  Also, the office looks a lot like this but isn't pictured; we'll give you new office pictures soon.  For now, isn't this an amazing transformation?  And, lastly, our fun lamp in the corner:
