We bought tile we really liked before we even closed on the house. It's white subway tile with a beveled edge, so it has a sort of three-dimensionality when you look at it. And today, Anthony and Tony turned it into a backsplash! Watch:
Isn't that incredible?! All in one day. Tony did the cutting. He's a master.
This is my favorite part:
All the way up along the window, the tiles continue in the same pattern as below. These two did a ton of cutting to make it work, and the result is gorgeous.
We painted trim in the big rooms today, and the upstairs hall. Here's a preview of what it'll look like, sans tape:
I sanded some funny spots in our (purple) bathroom today and discovered its old paint color. The color balance in this photo is not perfect, but I bet you can figure it out.
That's right, it's blue. This room, like so many others in this house, was once blue.
Since the stove is moved away for Anthony and Tony to set the tile, we get to see the original flooring hiding beneath it. Remember it was chosen to match that funky retro wallpaper we found (here's a refresher in case you forgot what it looks like):
And the matching floor (drum roll):
I am sort of sorry we can't see the full effect of these two together. I can't quite imagine it somehow, other than that it must have been a very colorful kitchen.
Our bedroom is done and the tape removed; the grey and white are exactly the soothing combination we'd hoped for. I am so pleased.
We picked a color for our bathroom and I picked up a gallon of that, bathroom ceiling paint, and another gallon for the guest room (very thirsty walls). I put a second coat on the guest room and it should be dry and ready for trim painting tomorrow morning. Unfortunately I forgot to take a picture of it for you. So come and stay, and that way you can see it! Our bathroom also has two coats of ceiling paint on it, and tomorrow we'll take down the medicine cabinet (there should be another big hole in the wall picture of that tomorrow). We'll probably actually paint it sometime next weekend; right now it's the only bathroom with a door in the house and with the whole crew chugging water and apple juice now doesn't seem like the time to take the door off to paint.
It was a really pretty day today and I was enchanted with the views of our yard. Here's what we saw:
Tony and Anthony changed outlets and light switches today too; now they all look much nicer, like this (couldn't resist the tile shot; sorry!):
We'll start moving things in tomorrow. Exciting!
